Cooking for your cat is as easy as preparing your own home cooked meals.

Making cat food is pretty simple. In most cases, it is as simple, as keeping a few staples on hand, and most times, you will already have the basics right in your kitchen. With just a little time, and love, your pet will be happy, and wearing a nice shiny coat.

Cats need five times more protein than dogs do. So while you are considering how you want to feed your kitty, make sure you prepare a wholesome meal. Cats choose their food by smell rather than by sight.

For your cat to remain healthy, it is important to ensure that your homemade cat food recipe includes sufficient animal protein, calcium, phosphorus, iodine and vitamins. Also, dry cat food is called "kibble".

Cats will eat many of the things that are not good for them, especailly if they are hungry. Depending on what it is, your cat may show signs of sickness or have other ill effects from eating the wrong foods. Never feed your feline friend any of this: chocolate, garlic, onions, canned tuna (high levels of mercury), artificial sweetener, milk, mushrooms. There are a few other things that should not be fed to cats.

Cat Lunch

  • 2 whole chickens boiled (de-skinned, de-boned, reserve broth)
  • 2 containers vegetable baby food
  • 3 jars chicken baby food

  • 6-8 teaspoons flax oil
  • 6-8 teaspoons fish oil
  • 5-7 rounded tablespoons bone meal
  • 1 6 ½ ounce can minced clams with juice
  • 1-2 or more cups reserved broth

Mix all ingredients well, and freeze in ½ to 1 cup portions in snack or sandwich bags. Thaw bags in hot water or in microwave before serving.

Supplements

  • 2 tsps olive oil
  • 1 tsp olive oil plus 1 tsp flaxseed oil
  • 1 tsp. nutritional bone meal not gardening bone meal
  • 1 to 2 tblsps pureed vegetables

Kibble for kitty

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups soy flour
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 1/2 cup brewer's yeast
  • 1 15 oz. can mackerel
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cod liver oil
  • 2 cups of water or as needed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. In another bowl, mash the mackerel into small pieces. Mix in the oil and water. Add the mackerel mixture to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. The dough is tough, so use your hands. Roll dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into 1/4-inch bits, using a knife or pizza cutter. Mound the bits onto greased cookie sheets and bake for 25 minutes.

During baking, occasionally toss the bits with two wooden spoons, so they brown evenly. Turn the heat off and allow the treats to cool thoroughly before removing. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This recipe freezes very well for longer storage.

Supper Time

  • 4 ounces of cooked white chicken meat
  • 1/4 cup of cooked mashed sweet potato
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons of butter
  • Add a supplement

Kitty Dinner

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp green beans (boiled and mashed)
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped carrot
  • 2 tbsp minced chicken breasts (no skin)
  • 1/3 cup brown rice (coarse and cooked)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Thoroughly mix all the ingredients and make a paste. You can also mash the mixture in a blender if required. Heat a non-stick frying pan and sauté the mixture in a low flame for 2-3 min. Let it stand and then refrigerate in air-tight containers or zip-lock bags. Serve the paste for a delectable kitty dinner within 36 hours.
